Our Mission

How was the name “Living Water Baptist Church” chosen?

The name was inspired by the Bible's reference to the gift of salvation as “the water of life.” See Revelation 22:17 and John 4

Goals of the church

Living Water Baptist Church, Inc. is a working church! We work at carrying out our part of Christ's command to take the Gospel into all the world; we work at “perfecting the saints, the work of the ministry, and the edifying of the body of Christ.” - Ephesians 4:12 All activities of this church are designed to carry out these goals.

We intend to become a self-supporting, self-governing church with a full-time paid pastor and currently support four missionaries in an effort to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The governing of the church is guided by Bible principle and is summarized in the official constitution and by-laws which are available to everyone interested in joining Living Water Baptist Church.

How do I join Living Water Baptist Church?

From the Constitution, Article III Reception of Members

Section 1. Individuals desiring membership must give to the Pastor testimony of salvation and baptism by immersion in a church of like faith. After this they must review the Constitution and return a signed copy of the membership Agreement to the Pastor.

Section 2. If the individual is or has been a member of another Church of like faith, a letter of dismissal shall be required from that Church, and the Pastor may contact that Church to determine the standing of the individual in that Church.

After these steps have been completed, the final decision will be made by a vote of the church.

Our History

Pastor Chris Lipscomb, Sr. was born in 1974 to Jerry and Janet Lipscomb of Morgantown, WV. He was saved on August 5, 1979, at Faith Baptist Church in Morgantown under the ministry of Pastor/Founder Dr. Bennie Moran. He attended Morgantown Christian Academy for K-5 through eighth grades, and attended Calvary Christian School in Fairmont, WV, for high school.

Pastor Lipscomb was called to the ministry during high school and went on to graduate from Pensacola Christian College with a degree in Youth Ministry. Since graduation he has served as an Assistant/Youth/Music Pastor in Pittsburg, TX, then as a Pastor in Dunbar, PA.

Pastor Lipscomb and Mary met in 1999 at PCC and were married in 2000. They have 5 boys. The family moved to Clarksburg in 2006 following God's leading and began to organize LWBC in March 2007. It is Pastor Lipscomb's conviction that God has moved him to do the work of the ministry here by planting a brand new church while working outside the church to provide for his family until the church can afford salary.

Your prayer, involvement, and encouragement are welcome!

Our Statement of Faith

We believe: (Scripture references can be found in full copy of our Constitution)

The Scriptures of the Old Testament and the New Testament are the divine, verbally inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original writings, and of supreme and final authority in matters of faith and practice.

That God eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that these three are one God and have precisely the same nature.

That Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man.

That the Devil, or Satan, exists as the enemy of God and man; once was a holy person enjoying heavenly honors, fell through sin and pride; has been judged and will eventually receive his final doom.

That God created the heavens and the earth, including all life, each after its own kind by direct act and not by the process of evolution or theistic evolution.

That man was created by God, in His image, by a special act of creation, that man fell through disobedience, and brought sin and death upon the race.

That Jesus Christ died as a vicarious, propitiatory sacrifice for our sins.

That all who believe in Him are justified on the single grounds of faith in His Blood.

That all truly regenerated persons are eternally secure in Him.

That Jesus Christ arose from the grave in a physical Body (glorified) and is now seated in this form at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.

In the bodily, personal, pre-millennial return of Jesus Christ; that he will come before the seven years tribulation period to catch away his Church, coming only into the air, and that he will come with his Church at the close of the tribulation to judge the living nations and to set up His kingdom.

That the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, or righteousness, and judgment; He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers in the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption.

That the Holy Spirit is the Divine Teacher who assists believers to understand and appropriate the Scriptures, and that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit.

That God is sovereign in the bestowal of spiritual gifts to every believer. God uniquely uses evangelists, pastors, and teachers to equip believers in the assembly in order that they can do the work of the ministry.

That the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing, were temporary. We believe that speaking in tongues was never the common or necessary sign of the baptism of filling of the Holy Spirit and that ultimate deliverance of the body from sickness or death awaits the consummation of our salvation in the resurrection, though God frequently chooses to answer the prayers of believers for physical healing.

In the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust. That those who accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord will be raised at the rapture of the Church to rejoice with Him forever in God's presence. Those who refuse to do so will be raised at the close of the millennial kingdom to stand in their bodies at the Great White Throne to be forever separated from God in Hell.

In the Church, both as a local body of regenerated, baptized believers, and the Church which is the Body of Christ an Organism.

In the autonomy of the local Church free of any external authority or control.

In the ordinances of the Church to be: Baptism (by immersion in water), and the Lord's Supper, in which the believers by the sacred use of the bread and wine commemorate the dying love of Christ.

That all the saved should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord; and that separation from all religious apostasy, all the worldly and sinful pleasures, practices, and associations is commanded of God.

That God hates divorce and intends marriage to last until one of the spouses dies. Although divorced and remarried persons of divorced persons may hold positions of service in the Church and be greatly used of God for Christian service, they may not be considered for the offices of Pastor or Deacon.

That God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

That any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex. We believe that God disapproves of and forbids any attempt to alter one's gender by surgery or appearance. That the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman.

These Articles of Faith accurately represent the teaching of the Bible, and therefore, are binding upon all members.
